  • Weather

The weather in Stockholm Archipelago tends to be slightly better the further you get from the mainland. Often when it is pouring in Stockholm there is brilliant sun in the outer skerries. And we use to say "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes". So come prepared for anything and we promise you'll have great time away!

You will find below links to recommended weather and wind forecasts. Some of them you can download as app on your mobile.

Make sure you always stay aware of the weather forecast and take your own (and other group members) physical condition and experience level into consideration when planning your trip.

Sudden changes in weather can make a daytrip twice as long, and much more challenging both physically and mentally. Calculate your timings carefully.

  • When to go

We are paddling all year round although typically, the season for multiday trips run between May and late September.

Summer season between May and September

Stockholm's northern location means that in June and the first half of July, the nights are relatively short, with about 18 hours of daylight. Around the summer solstice you will enjoy a bright blue sky once the sun has set because it does not get any darker than nautical twilight. You can celebrate Swedish Midsummer either on your own hand or during traditional celebration in Vaxholm.

Late summer is our favorite time to go sea kayaking in Stockholm Archipelago. When the summer crowds departlife returns to normal for those who live here all year round. The archipelago off-season is time to slow down, enjoy wonderful tranquility andluxury of having it all to yourself. Later on water is starting to get cold and, if unlucky, can be wet and windy. For late September rentals we do recommend that you have some kayaking and camping experience.

Our kayak center is open everyday between mid May and mid September (depending on the weather). In summer time we provide rentals of our sea- and expedition kayaks, canoes, SUP boards, bikes and packages including equipment for wild camping (tent, sleeping bags, stove etc.)

Note that most establishments (shops, restaurants, cafes etc.) in the archipelago is usually open for high season so roughly from Midsummer until the third week of August.

    Off-season between September and April

As long as our waters are not covered with ice we organize guided kayaking tours with appropriate winter gear provided. Rentals are not available at that time. Check our winter offer →

    Food markets in archipelago

There are two local markets ICA where you can make your food shopping before your adventure. Both are about 2.5 - 3 km away from our place. You can easily get there with bus or you are welcome to use our bike, if is available. We recommend to have almost whole food for your adventure, especially dry food like rice, pasta, canned food, muesli etc.

  • Packing list

We use expedition single and double kayaks with hatches to fit your camping gear. Depending on particular kayak model the hatch openings you’ll be packing into are about 24- 40 cm across. So baggage limits. Just like the airlines. We recommend that you pack most of your kit into small dry-bags (about 3-5 litres), especially clothes and electronic devices.

Remember that all the food and water also need to fit into the kayaks. Double pack all of your goods into dry bags and then into the hatch to protect against the risk of getting wet.
